As I travel through life I always notice the details, the beauty, and magic in people, places, and things. From flower girl dresses stained with chocolate to glances that deliver secret messages, moments of uninhibited emotion, the upturned corner of a brides smile to quiet tears of a groom trying to hold them back as they scream to his bride, I love you! These are the things I see and love to record through my lens, in still images and video, recording life as it happens, telling stories that have to be told.
If you are looking for those things in a photographer as well as someone who is easy going, a person who can go with whatever the day brings and captures the very best images from it, someone who is unobtrusive, creative, gets excited every time he clicks the shutter on his camera with the anticipation that this work of art will be a reflection of how beautiful your wedding day or portrait session was, look no further you have found your photographer!
With the onslaught of new camera technology there has been a flood of new part-time photographers, people who can take a picture, but people who don’t know the art, people who do not understand what a wedding day will bring, how to anticipate the days events and capture the magic of your wedding day. From our first meeting, through your engagement session, we get to know our clients, what their style and tastes are, what they want from their photography experience and give our clients the very best wedding day experience possible. Our clients are much more than just clients to us, they are close friends, people who have let us become part of their lives through one of the most intimate and life changing days of their lives, and I thank you! The special bond we have with our clients come through in the relaxed, natural images that have graced the pages of The Knot, Brides, Modern Brides magazines as well as numerous online website , blog and news publications.
Are you wondering if we have anything else in common besides photography?
I love to cook, cooking is art! Travel, travel and more travel, I love to yelp, tweet, blog and use Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. The outdoors are my second home, fishing, archery, hiking, canoeing, and camping. I love the cinema, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Eric Clapton, spending time with my wife and kids! I grew up in Michigan and have lived in Atlanta long enough to call it home. I never missed an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Breaking Bad, or Anthony Bourdain : No Reservations Required. (Thank God for DVR) Laughing and having fun is a must! I feel God has blessed me and to pass that blessing on to others through my art and my life’s journey is paramount.
The newest addition to the Artistic collective, Savannah brings a raw unpolished look to her work, something Tom has been looking for in an artist to compliment the other styles in the studio. Tom has always enjoyed watching the new, younger artists discover who they are and what their place will be in the artistic world, and Savannah is on that path. She joins us on shoots as an assistant, from time to time working her magic behind a still camera but mostly she shoots the video portion that is incorporated into our “Fusion” art films.
If you think you might be interested in hiring Tom and Christina for your wedding or portrait session this section is for you. Below you will find many of the questions you have our past brides have had as well and we have answered them for you.
We have looked at your work and love it. I have a friend who is starting his own photography business and wants to shoot my wedding. What would be different if we used your studio instead of his?
With today’s technology, most people can pick up a camera and take pictures, but that same person has no idea on the ins and outs of a wedding event, has not had experience solving problems in the heat of the moment, keeping the bride and groom happy throughout the day. With 21 years experience running a full-time wedding photography studio, we have photographed weddings from every aspect, seen just about all scenarios possible, experience does not come from purchasing a camera, taking a few photo classes or shooting your cousin’s wedding. Experience aside, 2 years of professional photography college and 21 years of working as a professional wedding photographer has taught me how to use a camera beyond the basics, using custom settings on the camera not the automatic settings that will fail a photographer it a lot of instances, how to use light to make gorgeous images and most importantly, given me the time to develop my own photographic style and image processing styles that are uniquely my own.
Describe your photography style.
Relaxed, photojournalistic, modern, alive and timeless are some of the terms our past brides have used to describe us. We are always challenging ourselves to anticipate and capture the next amazing image at an event. Even though our photography style has developed for all of the years of experience, we are constantly honing our style and craft every day to keep on top and ahead of the photography industry.
How long have you been doing photography?
With the combined professional wedding photography experiences within our studio of over 26 years, we can handle all of your photography needs. I think back to the years prior to that and realize that even before I had a camera in hand, I was taking mental pictures of the things around me that happened and the things that were beautiful. It is funny how some things are just meant to be!
Do you have backup equipment?
Always! We carry at least 3 sets of cameras and flashes, sometimes five to six sets. We love our hi-end Nikon and Canon cameras and sharp 2.8 Nikon and Canon lenses. Without using this top of the line equipment we would not be able to capture some of the most amazing low light images, we would have to use artificial lights instead
What happens if you get sick right before the wedding?
If you have hired both Tom and his second Photographer then you have backup insurance already built in. The benefit of working in this field for many years are the vast number of relationships we have with many great photographers that are more than willing to step in if someone gets sick.
How many hours of coverage do you offer, how many weddings a day do you do?
All of our wedding day coverage starts out with eight hours of coverage unless you only require a few hours of our service for a small wedding or elopement. You can add time to those eight hours if you chose to. We will work with to ensure you have all the time you need on your wedding day so you can be relaxed and enjoy your day. One full wedding a day and we are all yours!
How long does it take to get the photos back to us?
Unless we are shooting back to back events or are traveling, shooting a destination wedding, we usually have highlights from your wedding day posted online in 24 to 48 hours and have the download links emailed to you in one week to ten days for you to enjoy and share all of your images.
Are the photos posted online for our family and friends to see, can they order prints from you?
Definitely! We want everyone you want to have access to your wonderful wedding day. You can order all sizes of prints from our E-commerce site. The site can be password protected if you want it to be,
Are the photos in color or black and white? What about retouching?
We shoot all of the images in color and then as we edit them we can see which ones would look good in Black & White, sepia or processed a little bit more “funky” without over doing it. Of course if you want them all color you got, we always keep the original color images.
Do you shoot in JPEG or Raw files?
Being “film” shooters before there was digital technology, our exposures and color balancing from using film taught us how to create the best images in camera verses just putting the camera on some automatic setting, hoping for the best and then trying to fix the image in the computer. Shooting raw images instead of jpegs gives us that feel and control we had when we shot film. The last few years the processing programs have evolved into amazing tools, Adobe Photoshop and my our favorite Adobe Lightroom work hand in hand with raw files. When raw files are processed using Adobe Lightroom, the color, and exposure of the final image are unequaled to a processed JPEG image. So yes we shoot raw!
The package we selected does not include a wedding album, If we decide we want you to make one for us at a later time can you do that?
Yes you can. We love designing albums and the layouts that go into them, bringing the days memories alive for all to see.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Top of the line non- consumer Nikon and Canon cameras, flashes and lenses. Our lens have the best optics giving us the sharpest image when needed and the fastest lens allowing us to capture images in low light with a “natural” feel.
We are having a non-traditional service, which kinds of wedding ceremonies have you photographed besides traditional ones?
One of the things we love about weddings is that all weddings are different even all of the traditional weddings. Other than traditional wedding ceremonies, we have been privileged to capture Jewish, Hindu, Romanian, Native American, Polish, and Greek Orthodox, to name a few. Different ceremonies different traditions but always a beautiful bride and groom and great images.
We want to hire you but we are not getting married in town, it might even be a destination wedding.
Awesome! We travel all over the United States and abroad capturing wonderful weddings for our clients. Travel is one of our great passions and to combine it with a wedding event is a win win for both us and our clients. Not only will you get coverage of your wedding day but since we are traveling with you to your destination we will cover whatever you need the day before and the day after your wedding. And if you live in our home town, when you get back from your honeymoon, your images will be here waiting for you and not in a foreign land.
Can you describe what a typical wedding day shoot is like.
A lot of weddings will differ slightly depending on what the bride and groom’s needs are and what the pre-wedding day festivities are. A typical day with a ceremony beginning at 6:00PM would start with hair and makeup photography in the early afternoon, followed by getting ready images of the bride and groom with their attendants, then separate quick photo sessions of the bride with her side of the family and then he groom and his family. Sometime the bride and groom opt for a “first Look” before the wedding and we can combine all of the images into one session. If a family member misses this session it is not a problem, we just ask the family to gather him or her up to take some images later after the wedding or at the reception. After the ceremony with spend about 20 minutes with the combined families and then move on to have fun with the bride, groom and the wedding party. We want your time with us to be a relaxed fun experience not a painful day filled with tons of posing.
Is it possible to talk to some of your past clients?
Most definitely! Our past clients are our best form of advertisement! Check out what some of them have said in our raves section, (Click here) , check out our reviews on Wedding Bee and then feel free to ask for their contact information, they will be glad to talk to you.
